I have used 3DS Max & C4D before and personally dislike their UI's and they're both pretty bulky, Blender loads near instantly and you can have multiple instances of it if you're working on several models at the same time, which is not something I could comfortably do with 3DS Max. Some people may say Blender's UI is unintuitive but I think that can be said about any modelling application when you first start learning, can't expect to know what every single tool does from the get go, it takes a bit of practise before it will feel comfortable.
It's free but that doesn't mean it's bad at all, it's a lot better in some areas compared to paid modelling applications and it has a large community so it's pretty easy to find help to problems and find plugins to do specific things.
I've been using Blender for 12 years and would recommend it.
